PONCHO Presents 2008 includes two tickets to each of the following:
Seattle OperaFamed opera diva Tosca wants Cavaradossi, an artist and political firebrand, to turn away from revolution for the sake of their love. Menacing chief of police Scarpia just wants Tosca. It’s a larger-than-life battle of wills, and love may not be the only casualty...
Seattle Opera is one of the nation’s leading opera companies (with international praise and recognition). Seattle Opera produces musically extraordinary and theatrically compelling operas. All performances take place in Marion Oliver McCaw Hall, a Seattle Center staple since 1927. McCaw was recently renovated in 2003 and now boasts a gleaming glass curtain outer wall and fantastic acoustics inside. All Seattle Opera productions are complete with English captions projected above the stage, so you’re sure to understand every minute!

Persuasion
A romantic tale of love, perseverance, and rejuvenation, Persuasion pits desire against convention, cutting to the heart of the social and gender issues of early nineteenth century England. Eight years after Anne Elliot’s painful rejection of the naval officer she was betrothed to, having been convinced of his “unworthiness” by her family, she once again struggles with her rekindled and unwavering devotion. Austen’s scenes of avarice and poverty, flirtations begun and abandoned, and her ability to be a ruthless narrator, all come to life in this insightful world-premiere adaptation.
The Highest Tide
It’s summer and 13 year old, four-foot eight-inch, stature-challenged Miles O’Malley is doing what he loves best…combing the tidal beaches of the Puget Sound in the middle of the night. The Nisqually Earthquake is about to shake up his home town of Olympia, Washington, and his obsession with all things aquatic and the lust of the girl next door is about to turn this young man’s life upside down. Poetic, yet lean and lucid, and disarmingly funny, The Highest Tide is a stunning look into the sea of change that adolescence brings, and an intelligent, fascinating peek under the coastal waters of the Puget Sound— a sure highlight for all Northwesterners.

Each season we present four to five world-premiere productions, both contemporary works and literary classics, in an intimate 200 seat theatre at Seattle Center.

Seattle’s oldest art museum with the newest art… Founded in 1927, the Henry Art Gallery on the University of Washington campus was the first public art museum in the state of Washington. The Henry embodies the youthful vigor and inquisitiveness that comes with being associated with a world-class University. Balanced with the wisdom gained through 80 years of experience, the Henry Art Gallery is a seasoned organization with verve. The Henry engages diverse audiences in the powerful experience of artistic invention and serves as a catalyst for the creation of new work that inspires and challenges. The distinct gallery spaces provide a showcase for edgy, risk-taking art produced in every medium, at an international level. Through specially commissioned new works by up-and-coming artists such as Kader Attia (New Work opens February 29, 2008) to retrospectives of artists like Kim Jones (on view through January 20, 2008), Henry programs and exhibitions aim to stretch our awareness and move us into a new realm of possibility.
