Dear Art Supporters,

As we step into 2009, we are both inspired and optimistic. Although we all are facing a challenging economic climate, our regional arts community continues to offer engaging, enriching, and exceptional work.

We are also encouraged by the dedication, passion, and commitment from PONCHO supporters and the local community. PONCHO has already received a strong level of support for our Arts Education & Outreach Fund. Donations for this Fund slightly exceed last year’s allocations, and we continue to see donor interest. We are also reviewing every opportunity to raise money and build support for our Artistic Program grants, with a goal of maintaining level funding in 2009.

While there’s still much work to do, PONCHO’s commitment to our mission remains strong, especially during these uncertain times. We’ve embarked on a transition to sustain the arts more effectively by streamlining costs, reducing reliance on events, and diversifying our fund development strategy.

To position PONCHO to navigate this transition successfully, we are adjusting the timing of our annual auctions, which includes shifting the Wine Auction to the spring (which is a better fit for vintners and the wine-collecting audience) and shifting the Art Auction to the fall.

  • The 2008 PONCHO Art Auction is scheduled for October 3, 2009.
  • The 19th Annual International Wine Auction will occur in the spring of 2010.
  • The PONCHO Gala will be taking an indefinite artistic recess (in order to concentrate our efforts on PONCHO's core purpose of raising funds for the arts, we have postponed the redevelopment of the Gala as an Awards event.)

With strong support from PONCHO supporters and community leaders, as well as your continued passion and commitment, we will all tell future generations about the outpouring of community support that made it possible for our communities’ artistic institutions to weather this economic downturn and continue to rise to the occasion of serving our communities.

Thank you for all you’re doing to enrich and support the cultural life in this region.

    Janet True, PONCHO President 2008-2010

Tickets now on sale for Ten Grands.

On April 3rd, 2009, Ten Grands returns to Benaroya Hall for its second annual performance. Presented by The Snowman Foundation, this very special concert is designed to raise funds for the performing arts. PONCHO has been named the Seattle beneficiary for the second year in a row. The evening’s main sponsor is RBC Wealth Management.

Ten Grands features 10 grand pianos and 10 concert pianists on a stunning, dramatically-lit stage playing a variety of classical, jazz, blues, gospel, boogie woogie, pop, contemporary and new-age music. Artists play simultaneously, in various combinations, and individually.

Funds allocated from the 2008 Seattle concert through PONCHO benefited:

  • Arts Corps--All City Urban Voices
  • Bellevue Youth Symphony
  • 5th Avenue--Adventurer and Musical Awards Scholarships
  • Hi-Liners
  • Keyboard Labs, Orcas Island School District
  • Northwest Boychoir and Vocal Point!
  • Northwest Girlchoir
  • Seattle Rep Jazz Orchestra
  • Seattle Youth Symphony
  • Village Theatre--Scholarships

Ten Grands/The Snowman Foundation was started in 1999 in Portland, Oregon by pianist and composer Michael Allen Harrison. Since then, close to two million dollars has been raised for music education in the state of Oregon, providing area youth a greater opportunity to have music in their lives. Washington's inaugural Ten Grands concert raised a significant amount of funds for Seattle area music programs. Don't miss this year's Ten Grands concert on Friday, April 3, 2009. Help support music education!
